OBITUARY
The death occurred early on Wednesday morning last at his residence of Mr. Edward Daniel Riordan, of Deep Creek, Tatham. The old gentleman has been ailing for some time and his death was not altogether unexpected. Mr. Riordan at the time of his demise had reached the ripe old age of 81 years, and many of the travels and incidents of that long life would no doubt be well worth recording. Our late friend was born at Doreen, County Limerick, Ireland and came to Australia at the age of 11 years with an aunt and her family. They landed at Melbourne where they resided some time and then removed to Warnambool diggings at the time of the gold rush. After a time Mr. Riordan returned to Melbourne where he purchased city land. But the gold fever again taking hold of him, he went to the Gympie goldfields in Queensland to try his fortune and from there to Adelaide, South Australia where he lived for some time. Then he came to the Clarence where he followed farming for some years, eventually coming to Tatham, where hehad lived for thepast 50 years, a record of residence not easily surpassed by one who was not born in the district. Mr. Riordan was a noted breeder of draught horses and a keen follower of the turf in days gone by. As a neighbour he was always ready to help anyone in time of need. Mr. Riordan's wife, who was a sister of Mr. S Shanley of Casino, predeceased him about 15 month's ago. There were eight children of the marriage, of whom four are alive and four dead, the living being Messrs. John and Edward Riordan and Mrs.Phillip Leahy (Tatham), and Mrs. Small (Casino).
